Friday Fun: Kinky Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous, or The Imagined Joys and Perils of Dating a Hollywood Movie Star

Idris Elba being suave
I'm traveling in sunny and warm Los Angeles for a conference this week. I’ve been enjoying the wonderful sights, sounds, and foods of the city while also trying to soak up as much knowledge as possible from all the professionals cooped up all day in the convention center with us and each other.

Some of the panels have been amazing, but some not so much. The latter gave my mind the chance to wander in search of a topic for this month’s blog post. My thoughts naturally landed on movie stars and their potentially exotic (and kinky) lifestyles. In LA, it feels like money is practically floating in the air, available for those high enough to reach it. And by money, I mean $100's, not $20's or even $50's. Here, shiny Rolls-Royces with uniformed drivers slide into the streets from unassuming corners. Luxurious Bentleys sprawl, unbothered, under "no parking" signs with parking tickets tucked under their windshields. Shops perch on the avenue with "by appointment only" etched in gold font across their closed doors.

All this sexy excess makes me think of the movie stars in the city and also wonder what it would be like to date one of them.

My imagination took over pretty quickly.

One of the first things I thought of was getting to make sweet, movie star love on million thread count sheets while a shark circles in its giant tank built into the bedroom walls, eying our voracious lovemaking like it wanted to swallow us whole. Or is that what it would be like dating a musician?

Then there’s the imagined scenario of my famous lover trying to reenact the sex scene from his latest blockbuster movie while the maid dusts the gold-plated frame of the mirror showing off just how pretty he and I look together on the fur-lined couch.

Imagine dating a star who grew up rich in the business and never had to do simple things like making the bed, or washing dishes, or getting the honey from the kitchen that he wants to drizzle over your naked body while Jeeves changes the iPod playlist to something more passionate. Or more decadently Hollywood, like songs by The Weeknd.

And the parties would be fun too. Even when the actor your mom crushed on - who is now the same age as your grandmother - tries to hit on you near the pool. But you shrug off his Shaft-style pick-up lines and go back to enjoying your poolside massage by the guy who was an extra in the movie Magic Mike XXL.

My imagination is pretty vivid and I could go on for much longer about all the delicious and wild things that might happen out here in LA in the land of beautiful bodies, King Kong bank accounts, and endless ways to enjoy both. But instead I’ll leave you with these photos of the city and one question: If you could date a Hollywood movie star, who would it be, and why?

Lindsay Evans currently lives and writes in Atlanta, GA. She loves good food and romance and would happily travel to the ends of the earth for both. Her new novel, Untamed Love, is available now.
