Writer's Wednesday - Texan Ranches

The Pink Heart Society is delighted to welcome Love Inspired author Allie Pleiter as she talks about how her she ended up writing about Texas...

How this Connecticut girl ended up on a Bison ranch…

Some days I look back at the twists and turns of my life and just giggle.  Who’d have thought that this New England born theater geek would end up in the middle of a herd of Texan bison?

For me to trace the tangled path from actor to director to producer to fundraiser to grant-writer to novel-writer would take up twelve blogs.  But all those roles have fed a boundless curiosity for the wide world and all the different people in it.  I’ve always preferred to do my research person to person—resorting to books only when necessary.  I hope my love of interpersonal communication comes through in the vivid characters and dialogue of my books.

When my son chose a Texas college, I knew a series of books set in Texas was in my future.  And while cattle ranching might have suited, you know me—I needed something just a little bit different.  Did the lovely owners of the Lucky B Bison Ranch know what they were getting into when the answered an email from some Chicago author wanting “tons of information’?  Only they can tell you, but I do know that they’ve become wonderful friends in addition to being valuable resources.

The more Texans I meet, the more I like the Lone Star state.  And, of course, I’ve met some wonderful Texan yarn shops on my adventures, too.

The Texas Rancher’s Return launches a five book series set on a Texan bison ranch.  You’ll meet four siblings and a cousin who come together—despite a herd of obstacles, of course—to save the family ranch. I’ve had great fun writing the series, and I hope you have great fun reading it.

Allie's first Texas-based novel, The Texas Rancher's Return, is available now:

The Cowboy's Second Chance

Black-sheep cowboy Gunner Buckton is home for one reason—to keep Blue Thorn Ranch in his family where it's been for generations. No one—not even Brooke Calder—will take it from him. The cute, down-home widow may not look like a slick developer, but she works for one. Along with her adorable daughter, she's a threat to his homestead—and to his wounded heart.

Brooke needs this job. Gunner may be as ornery as a bull, but it's her task to win him over. The battle lines are drawn. Only problem is, around the handsome Texan, she doesn't know which side she's on.
