Male on Monday: Warriors on Ice

Superromance author Anna Sugden explains why she finds Ice Hockey players hunky.
The image most people have of a (ice) hockey player is more likely to be that of a toothless hulk, with black eyes and scars, rather than a sexy hunk to drool over. Yet beneath the protective layers of visored helmets and team sweaters over heavy padding lie some great-looking faces and very impressive physiques. Not surprising really, when you consider the peak levels of fitness required to play such a physical sport at the highest levels (and on ice!).
What makes hockey players even more appealing is that despite the hard-hitting on the ice, many of them are great guys off the ice. The traits that make them the elite in their sport, respected and admired among their peers and by fellow athletes, also make them the stuff of romance heroes. Yes, the warriors of the ice can hold their own with cowboys, men in uniform and Armani-suited, playboy billionaires. And here are a few pictures to prove my point! [Including the delicious cover for the French edition of the first book in my New Jersey Ice Cats series, A Perfect Distraction.]
Perhaps that’s why more and more romance readers are keen for stories featuring sports heroes, and in particular, hockey players. Which is great news for me!
July sees the launch of the second book in the Ice Cats’ series, A Perfect Trade. This time, it’s the turn of Ice Cats defenseman Truman ‘Tru’ Jelinek and former queen of the puck bunnies, Jenny Martin.
A win-win negotiation?

Truman "Tru" Jelinek's life is pretty much off the rails. With his professional hockey career on thin ice, and his personal life falling apart, he's ready to implement some serious changes. Helping Jenny Martin—the only girl he's ever loved—make her dreams a reality is a good place to start.
There's just one problem: Jenny doesn't want his help. She barely wants to speak to him. But Tru is prepared to negotiate a deal that even Jenny can't refuse. As trading favors turns into sharing passion, he has to face the truth that when it comes to Jenny, the game is far from over.
If you’d like to win an exclusive A Perfect Trade notebook and keyring, share your favourite sporting heroes and hunks.

  1. Hi Anna

I do so love your hockey hunks unfortunately ice hockey is not that big here in Australia but we have a couple of overseas teams coming to play here in the next couple of weeks I watch a lot of rugby league and cricket and there are some really nice hunks in amongst them and they are really great gentlemen one of my favourite league playrpers is Beau Ryan.

Congrats on the new book I loved it :-) :-)

    Have Fun

  2. Aww thanks, Helen! I'm always amazed thatyou Aussies actually play ice hockey and there is a large contingent that supports the NHL too. There's even a Hockey Night in Sydney, where people get together to watch NHL hockey!

Ah yes, can't beat rugby players! ;)

  3. Congrats on your upcoming release, Anna. Always up to check out the hockey hunks. Love the pic of Hank. I've been watching a lot of the World Cup matches and discovering so many soccer/football players I've never known about.

    1. Hi Jane - I included the pic of Hank especially for you! :)

Oh yes, there are some very tasty footie players! It's such a demanding physical sport that they have to be in peak condition to play at the highest level.

  4. Heroes? Bobby Orr! Hunk? Not so much in his younger days, but OMG today? He's a hunk!
More hunks? Still love seeing Doug Gilmour, whether in uniform on the ice or in a suit standing behind the bench.

    1. Hi Laney4! Thanks for stopping by and playing!

Ah some pretty cool hockey hunks - and not bad players too. My fave is still Scott Stevens!

  5. Thanks to Michelle and all here at The Pink Heart Society for letting me share my research ;) and my passion for hockey. Congratulations to Laney4! You're the winner prize!
