Writers Workplace: Scarlet Wilson and a Giveaway!

Today I'm going to share my writing workspace with you.  This post actually motivated me to redecorate my study!  I've been meaning to do it for the last few years as previously I had a kind-of lilac coloured dumping ground that seemed to be a breeding ground for books.

I am destined to turn into the elderly lady that the District Nurse can't get into her house because of the mounds of books everywhere!

So, of course, what colour did I pick for my newly-decorated study?? Red of course!!!
Complete with a swanky red leather chair that makes me feel like Dr No from James Bond!

It still seems really strange to see my own books on the shelves.  They have a special shelf all of their own, at present I have had three books out, with some Australian and French editions too.

My window looks out over my neighbours garden and on to the main road next to my house, so I've opted for my own little beach scene too!

These are my folders and although you can't read the labels I have one for each book I've written.  In each folder I have character profiles, maps of settings, pictures of celebrities who resemble my hero and heroine, and lots and lots of medical details!  I keep lots of research on whatever condiitons/treatments are used in my books, along with all my references in case I'm ever asked any questions!

And what else do I have??  Lots and lots of books.  I have masses of writing books that I dip in and out of depending on what stage I'm at in a book.  I also have a "keeper" shelf for books that I've really loved and think I can learn from.

I love my new study and am hoping to spend lots of useful, productive hours there in the future.  Wish me luck!

Leave a comment to win a copy of my latest book - West Wing to Maternity Wing!  I'll come back tomorrow and announce the winner.

Famous neonatologist Lincoln Adams is looking after the US President’s newborn daughter when nurse Amy Carson arrives at the hospital, posing as his very pregnant wife!  Amy’s had first-hand experience of Linc’s skilful hands, and he’s the only person she trusts to look after her precious cargo.  But trusting him with her fragile heart is another matter…..

The paper back version comes as a 2-in-1 with Melanie Milburne's Sydney Harbour Hospital: Lexi's Secret.

  1. Hey there, Scarlet!
Wow! You should be interviewed about "making the most of small spaces". That's incredible what you've done with the space! I love it!
I also like how well organized you are with the binders and books. I hate it when I procrastinate on something and my organization goes out the window (albeit temporarily)....

  2. You are so organized! Tell me you cleaned for two days. Lie if you have to.

  3. Red is my favorite color! Love seeing your space. Congrats on getting all put together. I'm so impressed.

And Jenna is right. You are so organized! And binders for each book. WOW! I have scraps of paper which I occasionally find and have to try and decipher what they are. I'm a plotter, but an unorganized one. I have a study where I probably should write since I have a lovely desk, etc, but I prefer the bed so my cats can be with me.

    1. I am so impressed. What a great idea, keeping all the profiles of your characters in folders.
Not to mention medical conditions. Yes you have really inspired me to be more organised. Sadly don't have office space, my recliner chair and laptop are mine. None the less, will sort out a space.

  4. It's beautiful! Your red chair looks super comfy & I spy many of the books on your shelves that are also on mine. (I love love love the Breakout Novel workbook, and the Stephen King writing book. I can't spot in on your shelf but 'Bird By Bird' by Anne Lamott is another of my favourites.) But I hope the first thing you see, every time you look up from your computer, is the shelf with YOUR books on it! Yay!!
    All the best, Amy
