Male On Monday - Alexander Skarsgard

This Monday Donna Alward rhapsodizes a little about the big Swede - Alexander Skarsgard.

Lately the husband and I have been watching True Blood, and with each episode, I'm more and more captivated by the character of Eric. It's no secret that I like my men big - and he definitely dominates the screen. At a tall, athletic six foot four, he towers over much of the cast. In a recent episode, he stretched his arm out and it was just so...long!

The husband and I also agree that his character is great...quite ruthless, definitely an alpha - he's the sheriff vampire for his district. But there's something else about Eric. He's fair. Screw him, he'll screw you back. But he doesn't kill for the sake of killing, so to speak. He has integrity and honour. And he's loyal, particularly to his maker, Godric.

So who is Alexander Skarsgard?

Well, for starters he's like Swedish film royalty. He's the son of Stellan Skarsgard (you might remember him from movies like King Arthur and Mamma Mia, and a list of others as long as your arm). He'll be 33 on August 25...definitely a man in his prime.

He started his career young, acting in several productions while just a child. But not comfortable with being a celebrity at such an early age, Alexander decided to quit acting. During almost eight years he turned down every offer he got. Instead he studied Political Science, did his Military service in the Marines and intended to study at an school of architecture in Stockholm. But in 1997 his longing for acting grew too strong and he enrolled at Marymount Theatre School in New York City.

The interest for Alexander Skarsgard outside of Scandinavia has grown rapidly over the last few years, and he has recently signed with the agency Endeavor in Los Angeles and New York and with Markham & Froggatt, Britains most acclaimed agency, to represent him in Europe. He can already be seen in big international movies such as "Zoolander" "The Last Drop" and "Revelations".

In addition to True Blood, recent tv credits include the acclaimed Generation Kill...and I can't decide which look I like better - the sexy, 1000 yr old vampire, or the muscled soldier with the name "Iceman". Personally, I'll take him over Val Kilmer's "Iceman" any day. And he's also featured in Lady Gaga's video for her song "Paparazzi".

While I think you need to see him act to get his chemistry with the camera, apparently that's not necessary in his home country - he's been named Sweden's Sexiest Man five times!

Now I'm just wondering how long it will take my critique partner Michelle to cast him as her next Viking hero....

Donna's next release is A Bride For Rocking H Ranch, in a Christmas anthology Mistletoe &Marriage (Montana, Mistletoe, Marriage in North America).

It hits the shelves (real and cyber) this November.

The Pink Heart Society also wants to congratulate this year's R*by Award winners at the recent Romance Writers of Australia conference:

Short Sweet - Marion Lennox – His Island Bride
Short Sexy - Trish Morey – The Italian Bosse’s Mistress of Revenge
Long Romance: Anne Gracie – The Stolen Princess
Romantic Elements – Suzanne Perazzini – Beneath the Surface

  1. I do not need Viking heroes running around in my brain.Right now, it is early Victorian and possibly one Roman...
But he is worth noting, isn't he?

  2. Jill - I thought so. With every episode, I'm loving Eric more and more!

And Michelle - I knew you were going to say that. Put him in the vault, he'll keep. ;-)

  3. Yep. I have been enthralled like his minions at Fangtasia from the first second I saw this striking viking. Besides the yumminess that God graced him in abundance with, he is really a fine actor. Check out some Utube vids of his scenes from Om Sara or Hundtricket. Both movies have shower scenes that will knock your eyes out. Lastly, I have been following him for awhile now and he appears to be absolutely the nicest guy.

Anyway, liked your blog. Best wishes.

We need more viking on True Blood!!
