RWA National Convention - Catching Up Pt3 - Harlequin Party

Friday night at Nationals is the night the publishers have their parties! Several parties – several venues all over Dallas – and several dozen people trying to attend every single one of them…

It’s the night people dress up and then kick off their shoes to dance the night away. And the general consensus come Saturday morning was that Harlequin threw one hell of a Bash!!!

For those of us who were out at the Presents dinner and therefore arrived a little more than fashionably late the party was in full swing when we eventually got to the Fairmont Hotel and so it was as well we’d been so well fed cos the chocolate fountain had long since bit the dust! Thankfully the complimentary bar was there all night long…

They had these wonderful towers with fake yet scarily realistic flames flickering at the top, the Harlequin Logo lighting up the walls and the kind of fun loving crowd that meant the dance floor was pretty darn busy all night long!!! But the resident lunatic/DJ decided that there were too many folks sitting down so he began a conga line on the dance floor that weaved its way through the crowd where every time we saw someone we knew we had to grab them and add them to the line… EVEN JENNA CONGO-D!!! We wended our way all round, getting the line longer and longer ‘til we spiralled round the dance floor in ever decreasing circles and then did the salsa for all we were worth! WONDERFUL FUN!

Fiona and I would appear to be kindred spirits in the dance-til-you-drop and leave-the-party-last departments and after a while we even had a few of the M&B Eds come join us on the dance floor!!! (pictures of this not available for security reasons…)

Oh and the best way to get two M& B eds to turn round for the camera??? Shout HOT MEN! And funnily enough they turn round… Hmm… Always on the look out for a story that lot!

Another little piece of info we thought we’d share was how appearances can be so very deceptive… let’s take the very sweet Melissa McClone for example shall we??? She has that stunningly pretty, fresh faced, butter-wouldn’t-melt look and yet… you really kinda gotta watch her. To illustrate the point this is a pic of Melissa on the dance floor with pretty much the hottest guy in the room… He’s a buyer for Amazon btw gang – yet ANOTHER reason to shop there… And Melissa, erm, made an impression shall we say??? YOU GO GIRL!!! Just as well you’re a happily married woman really…

Having danced until our feet hurt with the very wonderful Jennie Lucas, Fiona and I eventually admitted the party was over and headed outside …. To the STRETCH LIMO that took us home… Do we know how to party or WHAT??? I’d like to say we had it planned, but the whole stretch limo, stretch hummer thing appears to be the preferred mode of transport at the weekends in Dallas. Still – we thought it suited us…

And then it was off to bed at a ridiculously late hour so we could be up for a jam-packed Saturday!!! Where I’d get to worship at the shrine of Michael Hauge…more on that and talks in general up next…

And still to come pics from RITA and GOLDEN HEART night showing us in all our finery… and a wrap up on how we felt about our very first RWA conference…

(loads more pics for this folks but Blogger playing up so I'll try again later....Ooooh it let me load ONE MORE.... grrrrr.....I'll keep trying...)
